Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage — Haruki Murakami

A fun listen over a bit of travel and walks. A desire to get away from the news a bit during a pretty epic transition in life and a way to hopefully get away from everything and just hear a story — which this totally did. I came back to it a few times to finish it over about a couple months. Glad I did. It really offered what I needed at the time.

Lot - Bryan Washington

Fucking wow yo the cadence of these readings had me transfixed. I wonder how it would be to read this legit. Such raw stories of being people and surviving. Makes this life I have seem pretty easy and also justifies the parts that are hard for all of us.

We Need Your Art - Amie McNee

I came to Amie from a Dam Funk post on IG. Surprised I hadn’t heard of her of this book since I’m such a fan of writing about making art and inspiring folks (and my own) creativity. I felt the classic shame of ordering this and picking it up at my local bookstore (Antigone!) Like who is this nerd who needs this book. And then I just fucking loved every minute of this. Felt like a really life-changing work to come into my life at the right time. I was just finishing grad school and coming off a pretty solid creative lull. I was still making stuff but my album was creeping along and I wasn’t writing anything with with much direction. This was totally the book I needed. It’s now full of notes and underlines and random stuff in the margins probably only I will understand. I will be recommending this to all my friends who want to create but aren’t at the level that feeds them the vibes they deserve. This book will remain in my studio next to where I write and make tunes forever. I will open it and turn to random pages for inspiration just like I do with The Artist’s Way.
