The Vegetarian — Han Kang
Pretty f’n epic book. Kinda loved it but yeah super intense at times. Kinda blurs the lines of sanity in a way that is fun to read. Not sure where this came from but a heavy way to start the year of reading!
All Fours — Miranda July
recommended from somewhere (??) and I’m glad I read it — super unique and fun read, I think I grabbed it after seeing a short about her on pbs. Many times while reading I’m like, is this for me?? But I kept going and kept being surprised

On Writing — Steven King
loved this, more pragmatic than some of my more hippie shit so fun to see the juxtaposition and benefit here too. Got me thinking harder about word choice and cutting stuff
All that glitters — Orlando Whitfield
I thought it would be a treat to read something like a scandal and it was at times, a break from some more “serious” stuff I’d been reading. It also got super personal which was unexpected but hit hard. Wish I knew more of the artists mentioned but I can always look them up. Also not sure I care about the super rich being robbed by some percentage. I like Joe the author questions this and questions owner sho of art.
A reason to see you again — Jami Attenberg
made me realize what a good writer she is! I read her newsletter and have read her memoirs and 1000 words book about writing, so really fun to read her fiction. From the beginning, the way she dealt with complex people and family dynamics was like, damn! And a super cool structure to the book, basing chapters on years, and occasionally letting someone’s story ride out in a paragraph, like telling their life right there.
Crazy Brave - Joy Harjo
so cool how she taps into her natural mystical powers at so many points in her life and like talks about connecting with animals and also fuck she fn survived yo wow. Super amazing person. I like when she’s questioning the church by wondering how it’s possible that the feelings her god-given body is creating could be wrong
